Filmmaker Farah Khan recently said Mona Singh was the best part of Laal Singh Chaddha.
In a recent conversation that took many by surprise, the popular choreographer and filmmaker Farah Khan went on record saying that Mona Singh was the best part of Laal Singh Chaddha, the film released in 2022. Farah made the remarks during a public event and was seen responding to a question about the film and its performances.
While Farah did not intend to disrespect lead actor Aamir Khan, her candid comments have since gone viral.
Farah Khan commented: “I am apologetic, Aamir, but the best part of Laal Singh Chaddha was Mona Singh”. She went on to say that Mona’s performance felt authentic, emotional, and probed deeply.
According to Farah, the role of the mother played by Mona Singh was so powerful and well achieved that it remained with her long after the film had finished.
In Laal Singh Chaddha, Mona Singh starred as Laal’s mother. Mona’s character educated Laal about life, love, and strength. Her character nurtured Laal from childhood until adulthood, as well as reshaping Laal into the man he became. Mona earned a lot of praise from both critics and audience members in the first half of the film, specifically for her emotional scenes.
Farah Khan is quite famous for her bold and funny remarks, and she has roasted several actors on camera, including Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar; she always does it with love. This time, Aamir was in the line of fire, and Mona Singh unintentionally became the jealousy queen in the story.
Farah Khan’s statement might appear audacious, but Khan is not alone in admiring Mona Singh’s performance. When the film Laal Singh Chaddha came out in August 2022, many social media users noted that the emotional center of the film belonged to Mona’s performance.
Some even claimed she was more compelling than the bigger stars in the film.
The film also starred Kareena Kapoor Khan and introduced Naga Chaitanya to the Hindi film audience. Though Aamir Khan was a central voice of the film, and he prepared wholeheartedly, some thinkers felt it was too much in the sense of being heavy-handed or too much expression.
Mona’s understated and simplistic performance made a greater impression.
Farah Khan’s statement may have caught Aamir fans by surprise; however, it also highlighted the significance of supporting actors in a film. Mona Singh, with all of her calmness as well as commanding presence, has shown that you can be a good actor no matter how much screen time you have.
Farah said, “The soul of the film is not always in the hero, but in the heartbeat of a mother.”
