In a shocking and heartfelt statement, Sunita Ahuja, wife of Bollywood superstar Govinda, revealed the many issues that the actor faced during the height of his career.
Sunita claimed that despite being successful and one of the most adored actors during the 90s and early 2000s, he had to deal with jealousy and sabotage from multiple people and places.
Sunita’s blunt comments have sparked a new discussion in Bollywood, especially about how the film industry treats its stars once they rise to the top.
Govinda, who was popularly known as the “Hero No.1” of the film industry, was a phenomenal talent full of comic timing, vivaciousness, and dance moves. In the 90s, I don’t think another actor was working at his level. He was able to make hits, hit after hit; not just a comic hero but a comic hero that was loved by the 3 generations of audiences; Govinda’s success was remarkable and generous – following Sunita, it also came at a horrendous price.
Sunita Ahuja:
“When Govinda rose to the peak of his career, there was so much jealousy because he was such a big success that a lot of people could not digest that. They tried to bring him down by creating false stories, misunderstandings, and blocking his work.”
Sunita said that there was a circle of people in the industry that didn’t like the level of love and appreciation Govinda was receiving, and they tried to isolate him or cut him out of work for major films.”
“He was so simple and nice. He did not engage in dirty politics, and maybe that is what coz he was targeted,” Sunita reasoned.
Sunita also explained that these behind-the-scenes issues took a toll on Govinda. He was always on camera, is was smiling, but there were times the negativity around him was just too much.
Sunita talked about Govinda being strong, and although there were setbacks, it never broke him.
Govinda encountered multiple setbacks throughout his career, and each time, he provided evidence as to why he was and remains among the most cherished stars. But comforted by Sunita, Govinda conveyed that the harm done by utter falsehoods and individuals he trusted is something that will remain attached to his soul.
